Singer-songwriter Leo Kalyan brings the past and the present together in his new video for Fucked Up, which was released yesterday (October 24).
The song, which Leo produced himself, reflects on his experiences growing up gay in a Muslim household, while the video, interspersed with footage from Leo’s youth, follows him as he journeys to let go of the baggage that his childhood saddled him with.
Speaking to Fader, Leo explained that Fucked Up, which is taken from his upcoming EP Outside In, is “about falling short of people’s expectations.
“I grew up Muslim between London and Lahore, but now, as a gay person person living… in East London, I’m constantly aware of the toll being myself takes on me and my family and my relationships.
“The song is about confronting that, and releasing yourself from your baggage.”
